It's Monday! Yet Again. As such it's time for your weekly Advice For World Happiness. Today's is easier than most and is in your direct control: APPRECIATE!
For me this past week has been a doozy -- spent more money than I have on not a whole lot of anything, still trying to figure out how to have the money / time / motivation to increase my training in dance and performance, got behind on more than a few ideas and certainly behind on more than a few bills, feel pressured to get my business ideas rolling -- but which one?, I then got the news of a hairdresser acquaintance just suddenly passing away -- and then finding that a cousin of a dear friend of mine, who lives in Haiti, passed on too (killed when trying to save his wife from kidnappers! WTHF!). Further, tonight as I was browsing about the internet for interesting news I came upon another heartening situation of the issue of amputees in Haiti! God Bless America!
And just like that I realized that the message the universe is trying to send me with regards to happiness is APPRECIATE! APPRECIATE! APPRECIATE! It may in fact be that the number one thing we could all do to increase our happiness in the world is to appreciate all the wonderful things that we do actually have -- RIGHT NOW! It may be that while we are always so focused on what's wrong, what needs fixing, what we need to do and what we need to pay, we forget that there are so many things that are actually OK! And perhaps by focusing on what is OK, more OK will come!
SO THIS WEEK'S HAPPINESS ASSIGNMENT? Write 25 things each day that you can be thankful about! It may be tough at first, but force yourself to do it and then lets take a look at how you feel by week's end. To get you started I'll share my own little list of love:
1. I am so happy that my sister who I can barely get a moment to speak to is sending me a care package! She rocks!
2. I am thankful that I am ALIVE and have all my limbs, organs and sanity in tact!
3. I am thankful that I can still train like an athlete, have a ton of energy and feel motivated towards dancing -- when as so many others lose the joy and quit or retire by now!
