It's Monday the 18th of January, and it is a wonderful Monday indeed, because instead of going to our dreaded desks, we get to stay home in honor of the American Hero and Orator Par Excellence, Martin Luther King, Jr.
No one can complain about a Monday off, but it has always rubbed me a bit odd that while we are more than happy to stay home on this day, not many of us prove too excited to re-visit his most challenging and heartfelt words. As with many historical moments that we honor in the present, it often seems that the reason for the season is only an incidental. Yet, with Haiti being near pummeled into the Ocean, Africa proving a logistical nightmare and 100,000's of People of All Colors suffering from less than fair circumstances, it cannot be ignored that his Dream remains not only relevant, but paramount.
While many things have improved, it remains an unquestionable fact that the World needs as much cohesion amongst its peoples today, as ever before. It is undebatable that where there is poverty, disease and disaster, human pettiness & discrimination is not far behind. It simply cannot be ignored that the ability to look past another's skin color, creed, political party, economic bracket and education is a most crucial first step to creating a World of Happiness - especially with a Global Economy tying together more disparate populations than ever before. The Point? We'd certainly be a lot further along in this world if we could simply discriminate more with our own selves, and of course, less with others.
So, in effort to encourage each and every one of you in the journey to your Dream, please take just 5 or so minutes today to read this speech of the Man who gave you this dreaded Monday off. And even more, do try to Obey!
Dreaming of Your Happiness, I remain
Mdme. B.
